Penang Hill Railway Closes

The newspapers today announced that the Penang Hill vernacular railway had run its last trip.

There goes memories of beautiful stations built of stones, an almost vertical track, and a scenic path that cuts across villages of vegetable farms, huge limestone outcrops, tropical jungle and, most memorable to kids – from a time when I was myself a kid to my kids’ time – of sighting pitcher plants as the trains make their slow way up and down the hill.
