When It Last Rained At Dawn

I cannot recall when it last rained at dawn
Or when butterflies last flitted the lawn
When waterskaters last skated the ponds
Sweeping swallows from the morning skies gone
Earthworms and bugs departed their ground
From fallen logs amazing critters withdrawn
Snails and squirrels children wonder not upon
No ghostly owls shiny eyes to haunt
In great strides Man has lost more than found

To the afterlife
The Light of Life Itself
Passes on

Heaven have mercy,
What will never be known
Will be missed not by no one
